TWO ACRE SHAKER 2011 Line Up

SMALLTOWN DJs (Calgary,AB)

Smalltown picIf your ears work, you can't not have fun at a Smalltown DJs gig. That's a scientific fact. Look it up. The Canadian duo's uncanny ability to make crowds feel like schoolkids at recess stems naturally from their focus on maximizing fun for themselves.

'We're just out to consistently have the best time possible,' says Pete Emes, who shares space behind the decks with partner Mike Grimes. This fun maximization philosophy is the unifying force be-hind the Smalltown's genre-warping club sets, which tend to cover vast musical territory but never veer from the good times vibe.

In their focus on music as a means of letting loose and having fun, Smalltown DJs are like the KISS of dance music. Actually, KISS are too theatrical. They're more like AC/DC. Meets Raffi. At a water-slide park. With a lot (a LOT) of beer.

Equally at home playing intimate private jams or massive festivals, Smalltown DJs have have hosted and played alongside a huge array of talent, including Afrika Bambaataa, Dj Assault, Jeru the Damaja, Diplo, Tommie Sunshine, Spankrock, Chromeo, The Rub DJs, A-Trak, XXXchange, Low Budget, James Lavelle, Z-Trip, Fort Knox Five, and more.

On the production side, the duo has released several blends, remixes and re-edits that have been getting play all over the world. Recently they teamed up with Wax Romeo to create Smalltown Romeo, a new production supergroup focused on making fun dance music with a sense of humour. Not surprisingly, Smalltown Romeo's production style resembles the squad's approach to deejaying - polymorphous, party-focused and pretension-free.

Smalltown DJs' quest to maximize fun for themselves and others is an ongoing saga. They continue to tour relentlessly. Look for them in your town soon.

TLGLTP

The revolution is upon us. We are its dirty secret. Formed in a sordid kitchen in Glasgow’s West End, two hearts’ conspiracies converged creating a duo of sluttery and hot pop plots. Crossing oceans and astral planes, TOP LESS GAY LOVE TEKNO PARTY has evolved into a six piece hooker pop powerhouse. THE PARTY combines the frivolous with the serious political agenda of mobilizing everyone to truly celebrate your birthday. Happy Birthday! We love you.

The combination of Honey's powerful, dynamic soulful and strong voice, with Erica Dee's raspy, hip-hop, jazzy flow creates a sound that is a hybrid of everything your body craves. Their mutual pursuit of fun and happiness shows on their stages and infects their audiences.

Honey LaRochelleHoney who has been traveling the world for years with prominent soul figures including Roberta Flack, Macy Gray, Joss Stone, and the Brand New Heavies, is recognized for her strong soaring soprano and her "bag of tricks." Erica Dee who has been making a name for herself collaborating with Hip hop and electronic acts like Lorin Bassnectar, Chalie 2na and Russ Liquid, is recognized for her soulful catchy melodies, and hip-hop-isms reminiscent of Bahamadia and Salt ‘N Peppa.

DJ LONNY CASH (Pemberton, BC)

Come check out how rad I am and later we can get drunk. Then I'll tell you about all the famous people a I've played with. See you at the Two Acre Shaker.

A Brief History of Shaker....

On a sunny morning in the Spring of 2008, Kirk Becker was standing in his yard, staring out into the overgrown nether-regions of his recently purchased two and a half acre property in Pemberton, when suddenly, he had a vision; A vision of himself, shirtless, clad in a pair of David Lee Roth era, zebra-striped lycra pants, belting out notes from an impossibly high octave, while legions of adoring fans and groupies gazed upon him in awe. Fortunately for all of us, this fantasy was soon replaced by another vision; A vision of hosting an epic one-day party in his backyard.

Crowd2Excited to share his inspirational daydream, he called out to his close friends, Lon Flath and Pat McKinnon, who were just a few short yards away, fiercely re-enacting a medieval sword-fight as part of the weekly meeting of their two-member "Knights of the Round Table" club.  Eager to hear what Kirk had to say, Pat and Lon put aside their matching Excalibur replica swords and listened intently.

Kirk proceeded to describe, in vivid detail, his vision of creating an independently produced one-day musical festival, where people from throughout the Sea to Sky corridor could gather for an intimate concert experience and have their insatiable thirst for booty-shaking quenched by the sounds of the finest musical minstrels of the west coast and beyond.  Pat and Lon were floored by the entirety of Kirk's touchingly inspirational and beautifully delivered speech, but truth be told, he had them SlayBayat "party".  From that moment onward, the three gentlemen pledged to join forces and create a legendary merrymaking experience for all to enjoy.

They spent the next few hours wracking the collective powers of their creative minds to come up with a suitable name for the event, and, after coming up with such early favourites as "Big Party", "Really Big Party", and "Super Big Party", they decided that perhaps the title of the event should feature a catchy rhyming couplet.

And so it was that the Two Acre Shaker was born.....
